Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays!!!! The stuffing, the sweet potato souffle with melted marshmallows, the biscuits, everything that I loved!!!!! The first gluten free Thanksgiving however was difficult to say the least. All those favorite dishes now had to just pass by me as all I could get now was get a whiff. HORRIBLE! Well at least I could eat the turkey, right? Not so fast.

It wasn’t until last year when I started to reconfigure and create all these new recipes so that I could enjoy one of my favorite holidays again. I recreated everything, the sweet potatoes were now made without butter and with gluten free marshmallows, the stuffing was made without bread …  but what about the turkey? I had read somewhere that some turkeys were injected with stock or preservatives that most likely contain GLUTEN! REALLY? Even in our turkeys? So I did some research and came up with some options for your fear free Thanksgiving!

Here are a list of brands that offer all natural gluten free turkeys. You could also check by calling the company that you normally buy from. One would never think that turkey has gluten but unfortunately some of them do. So be safe and eat well. Happy Turkey Day!

I just read on your twitter feed that you will be opening a bakery….. YUM!! I love baked goods & baking so much better than cooking. I will really need to find a reason to come to NYC now…. ;-) I bet you’re excited to start a new journey like that…. how awesome!

Ever been to Virginia?? The eastern part near the water. I think you would like it if you’ve never been. Have a great weekend!!

    Kindest Regards,

This is all so interesting as I am starting my journey into my new Gluten Free lifestyle. What books were helpful to you when you started? I know Gluten is in so many foods, even lipstick :( but I am not finding the information I need.
    Thank you!

I’m so glad you found this site. You are exactly who I’m doing this for. People who are looking for info on how to truly cope with this disease. i wish I had a book to recommend to you. I was in the same position as you and searched for answers, help, guidance. I’m sorry to say I didn’t get much from any one book. And believe me I have read them all. There are pieces to take from some but for the most part I learned how to deal and what my body needs on my own. That is why I named the site Jennifer’s Way. It is the way I found to live after being diagnosed. I knew there must be so many that felt the way I did, the way you feel now. You are not alone, believe me. Please read all of the posts there is some very helpful info. Also please feel free to keep asking questions. To me , to your health providers, and from what you read. You need to take your health into your own hands now. Keep daily food diaries, see what works for your body and doesn’t. Your body will let you know when it is not happy. Listen! AND STAY AWAY FROM GLUTEN!!

      Much health
      Ever Onward

Most turkeys don’t contain gluten. In the USA, wheat has to be declared on the label. Most modifiers are made from corn. Granted natural flavors could be anything, but I’ve never come across a turkey injected with rye or barley.

The gravy packets that come with some turkeys are a different matter. Some have wheat and some have rice flour. They are clearly labeled.

    Happy Thanksgiving all!

Speaking of holidays, when will you have any of your products available for purchase? I would like to buy an abundant supply for many of my friends in Staten Island for the Christmas holidays. It would be great if you could have at least some of your pasta and baking goods available–especially for the scones recipe. Some of them are into baking while some of them would just be interested in the products that are used for quick recipes like pasta. Nevertheless, the demand is there for at least four to five, very large volume orders. It would be nice if they were packaged in very large wicker baskets. However, if the baskets would interfere with the expediency of the packaging, courier and/or delivery process, traditional methods of packaging could be used as well. Or you (Jennifer) could package your products accordingly to a vast array of assortments in any form or method you choose, and I could simply buy as many assembled orders as possible that I feel would satisfy the demand that I wish to fulfill. If my request could be carried out in whole or in part, is there any possibility my friends could receive your products a week before Christmas (December 17)? Thank you kindly, Chris.

Cross Butterball off your list, Jenifer. My Butterball turkey had modified food starch in it. Didn’t notice until I was getting ready to put it in the oven. Luckily, we were able to save the day for my 13-year-old daughter by buying Gluten Free turkey at a local bakery/cafe that only serves GF.

Agreed. Butterball needs to come off the list. I did not realize that there was gluten in it until after I had a bad reaction. It was the only source in my meal. My husband and I did not think to check the turkey back then. Unfortunately they still claim to be gluten free when they aren’t.

Just wanted to wish you well in your new endeavor and thank you for offering such great advice to all who have celiac. I don’t have it but still try to eat gluten free and am a vegetarian too. Will try to get to your bakery also. Sounds wonderful.
All the best to you Jennifer.

    GLUTEN CUTTER CAPSULES

A while ago I put in a comment, or question rather, regarding the new pill on the market called Gluten Cutter, & asked if anyone had used it. I was hopeing that maybe someone had tried it & could report on it.

I checked back, but there was no reply to my post whatsoever, & nothing in my e-mails.

So, I tried the pill, & for me it has worked. I only used it for my very favorite foods, like REAL hamburger/hotdog buns and am happy to report that it works. My problem is I’m gluten intolerant, in which I get VERY bad bloating/gas. I’m happy to report that nothing happened after I took 2 of the pills ( you can take 1 or 2 at beginning of meal, & I chose 2). All I felt was a very little teeny bit of rumbling in my intestines.

As I said, I don’t use it often, but it did work for me.

    Wishing everyone Happy Holidays!!

    Leslie
